  8.     Zangband is a variant of Angband, which is a single player role playing
  9.     game. You choose a race and a class, then roll up statistics to describe
  10.     your various abilities. Then you're unleashed upon the dungeons of Angband,
  11.     ultimately dropping to dungeon level 100 and trying your damndest to kill
  12.     The Serpent of Chaos.
  13.  
  14.     Along the way you encounter a myriad of creatures and uniques to hinder
  15.     your progress, and objects and artifacts to help you achieve your goals.
  16.  
  17.     Angband is loosely based on the works of JRR Tolkien, and had the game
  18.     Rogue as an ancestor, hence the term 'roguelike' that is encountered in
  19.     this guide and many other documents relating to Angband and it's variants.
  20.     Zangband is adapted from Roger Zelazny's 'Amber' universe.

  22.     Angband is constantly under development, and has been since it came out
  23.     in its most basic form back in 1985.

  25.     ZAngband has an expanded magic system, talking uniques, lots of extra
  26.     weird monsters and vaults and all sorts of other stuff. I won't spoil it
  27.     for you!

  29.     ZAngband is based upon Angband 2.8.1. If you've never played Angband
  30.     before, try that first; ZAngband is harder than 'vanilla' Angband.

  32.                                 Requirements
  33.  
  34.     You'll need at *least* this to run ZAngband (and Angband, for that matter)
  35.  
  36.     o Kickstart 1.3
  37.     o 1.4 Mb of memory
  38.     o 68000 - a faster processor is nice, but by no means necessary.

  40.                            Recommended Configuration
  41.  
  42.     This is what I'd recommend to get the most out of ZAngband:

  44.     o Kickstart 3.0 or better
  45.     o 2Mb of memory
  46.     o 68020 or better.
